The Pear Technology Map Shop enables the use of premium Ordnance Survey mapping in OTISS. This is particularly valuable for sites of any size when a detailed and up to date base map is required to assist with accurately mapping trees. The free maps such as OpenStreetMap or Google Maps can often lack detail that can provide important context for tree survey reports.
The guide below explains how to select and purchase Ordnance Survey MasterMap data for use on the OTISS website and Android app
Please note that the OS MasterMap dataset coverage is limited to Great Britain

Please note if you wish to add OS MasterMap data to a site which you have already created, go to the Map Shop tab, select the site you want from the dropdown list and click the ‘Open Map Shop’ button
1. Go to the ‘Site’ tab, create a new site by clicking on the ‘Add site’ button and then select ‘Purchase Ordnance Survey MasterMap’ as the map type then click next.
2. A message will appear to let you know that you will need to finish entering the site details before you will be redirected to the Map Shop. Press the ‘Upload’ button to continue
3. Enter the rest of the site details like normal but leave the Map or Plan options as ‘To be purchased from Map Shop’. Click ok to continue
4. Once you click ok, please wait for a few seconds as the Map Shop will open in another tab. If a new tab doesn’t appear, you may need allow pop-ups within your browser’s settings. Sometimes, an icon like the one below will appear in the top right corner, click on it and tick ‘Always allow pop-ups and redirects’ then select done.
5. Once the site has loaded, use the panel on the left hand side to navigate around the MapShop. To find a site, you can hover your mouse over the map and use the mouse wheel to scroll in and out or you can search for a location by entering a place, road name or postcode in the yellow box.
6. Next, select the area you require by drawing either a polygon or rectangle around it. To draw a rectangle, click on the rectangle icon, let click and drag a box over your area and let go. To draw a polygon, select the pentagon icon, left click around the area you require and do a double left click to finish the shape. If the shape needs to be edited or deleted, select the shape first so that it turns red and then use the controls at the top of the page to edit / delete it. If your client has provided their boundary in either a shapefile or KML format, this can be loaded directly into the Map Shop
7. When you have drawn the area that’s required, click on ‘Calculate Price’ to see the cost and if you are happy, click ‘Order Data’ to proceed
8. Enter a name for the map in the map title box and click ‘Place order’ to continue. On the next screen, there is an option to enter a purchase order number or customer reference if required; any details entered here will appear on your invoice at the end of the month. Tick the ‘I agree to the terms and conditions’ box and then ‘Submit Order’ to purchase the map. The order has been automatically linked to your OTISS account and an invoice will be sent to you at the end of the month.
9. Once your order has been processed and turned green, you can either click on the ‘Open OTISS’ button or close the Map Shop tab and return to OTISS. If you go to the ‘Map’ tab and select your site, the OS MasterMap data should now be displayed. Like with other map formats such as DXF and PDFs, you can overlay the OS MasterMap data onto any of the free backgrounds such as Google Aerial by selecting them from the dropdown list on the left hand side.
