From the list of Downloaded Surveys, you can select and start a survey: you are immediately presented with an online map of the site. NB: Using the online maps requires having a Wifi or 3G signal with a suitable data contract.
The normal map operations can be used to zoom and pan around the map.
The map is automatically zoomed to include the trees/furniture on the site. If there are no existing items, you can either
- pan and zoom to the required location or
- use the options menu to turn on the location feature, which will automatically centre the map at your current location using the GPS and mobile phone network.
Coloured Icons
Amber coloured icons represent trees or items that have been previously surveyed, but have not yet been inspected as part of this survey. Green coloured icons represent items that have already been surveyed as part ofthis survey. Tapping on an icon allows you to view or re-survey that item.
New items can be added to the survey by double tapping on the screen at the required location.
- The trees appear on the map as coloured circles with their reference number.
- The site furniture appears on the map as coloured squares with their reference number.
- If you downloaded both a Tree Safety survey and a Furniture survey for the same site, then both sets of icons will be displayed on the map at the same time.
Options Menu
The following options are presented when you press the device’s options button.
- Turn the aerial view on and off.
- Turn the location on/off. When location is turned on, the GPS and mobile phone network is used to centre the map at the current location (marked with a blue dot). As you walk around the site, the map will automatically follow you, making it easy to plot and inspect the nearby trees and items. Note: Constantly using the GPS requires more power and will use up your battery quicker.
- When move mode is turned on, the icons can be moved by simply draging them to a new location. It is best to keep move mode turned off to prevent unintentional moves.
